I'VE RECLAIMED THE USE OF MY IMAGINATION

trying to document my photographic practices, which should hopefully drive me to think more about my work and produce a better outcome.

So, I got all the shoots done! We worked from 11-3 continuously, and in the end we got things ACHIEVED.

I did the make-up for both Sun and Moon which I was a little worried about, but I don’t think it’s so awful that people will criticise it (although there’s always one smart aleck) so I’m pretty pleased. I haven’t started any editing on the Language of Colour series, but that’s not due til Thursday morning so I’m concentrating on what’s due Wednesday right now.

That’s all I’m shooting for folio until next semester though, so there might not be many updates from now on (apart from my language of colour series). If I do any shoots over the holidays (which I might do) they’ll be visible on my flickr although I probably won’t do a lot of reflection on them here.

So today, I’m shooting for two assignments. But it’s a lot of pictures.

First off, we (Jenny and I) will be shooting for the Tarot Card series, doing the Sun and the Moon. One of the folklores (Basquan?) says that the Sun and Moon are both daughters of Mother Earth, so I decided they were twins and they’ll both be played by Jenny. After that we’re shooting for my Language of Colour assignment which is ‘Imaginary Landscape’ which involves backdrops placed on the floor and me shooting from directly above (god help us all) and then drawing in props later.

Alright. Let’s do it.

Here’s our finals for both Death and The Devil. I think they actually look really nice next to each other - tomorrow, I’ll (hopefully) get to add The Moon and The Sun. Baby, we got a stew goin’!

So, yesterday’s shoot was almost a disaster - but then it wasn’t. For starters, my alarm didn’t go off at 10, and I woke up at 12, with the shoot prepared for 1.

Fuck.

Heaps of swearing and running around and phone calls, getting to uni at 12:45 and getting equipment and upstairs with 4 minutes to spare. Chill. Beata was running late, so the make-up and hair was half an hour behind, and also took 3 (three!!) hours to complete. But we got there. It did mean I only had half an hour to shoot though, but luckily it wasn’t a difficult shoot with lots of looks - it was just the one. And we definitely got the shot. Muchos thanks to my team - Emily, Eden Maree, and Beata. We did it!

I’ve also recently switched website hosts from LiveBooks to 4ormat, and it has been a lot easier than I thought it’d be AND I love my new website a lot. If you wanna have a look, click HERE!

Tomorrow I have three shoots to do. Let’s hope I don’t kill myself in the meantime.

My “The Devil” shoot went really well, I think! It was just as easy as I thought it was going to be, so that was good. Highlights include:

Importing files now. I’ll show you them ASAP. I am excited.

er, also, if anyone has any questions about me or my work, i opened up the ask box. not that anyone has any. but just in case.

I have a shoot coming up this Thursday morning (blergh, morning) which will be the first in my Tarot Cards series. I tried to organise a shoot for this series a couple weeks ago, but make-up artists proved to be difficult to find and so I had to cancel. Anyway.

The idea of this shoot is to create a new look for the Devil tarot card. The Devil is usually shown on Tarot cards as being a half-goat/half human creature with horns, holding a man and a woman captive in chains. We’re taking the other side of the Devil - the ‘Lucifer’ side.

We’re going to recreate the image of the beautiful angel Lucifer instead of the scary goat-horned image of Satan. Because Lucifer is the symbol and (probably) inspiration for ‘temptation’, the idea is to create a nu-age view of the Devil/Lucifer to show how people CAN be led by temptation, and into sin.

I’ll be working with a guy I met a couple years ago, Mark J Simpson, as my Lucifer, and hopefully this will be a quick shoot because it won’t be too complicated. I hope to get some of the images up by Thursday night, but as I have class in Prahran that night, maybe not.

hello, friends!

if you’re following this blog, you’re seriously dedicated to my photographic practices and i commend you for that. this is where i’m going to [attempt to] document my shoots and thought processes, because sometimes that’s really helpful to me, and also because maybe some of you are interested in how i work and come up with my ideas.

so i’ll be writing about some of my work… probably… when i can get to it. deeply sorry if the writing is awful. i am trying my best.

yay!
